Stars of Newcastle is a dancing event incorporating local celebrities and businesses who will put on their dancing shoes to shimmy and shuffle their way to stardom and raise vital funds for Cancer Council NSW.

Over the next few months, Campbell Rogers from the Sydney Junction Hotel, will work with a professional dance instructor to learn a dance routine and fundraise for Cancer Council NSW. Taking stage on Saturday 16th June at NEX in Newcastle West, performing his routine for a panel of esteemed judges.

In its fourth year, 100% of proceeds from the event will contribute to local Cancer Council support services, to directly help those living with cancer in the Hunter Community. 


Meet Campbell,

Campbell grew up in Sydney, moving to Newcastle with his wife (Clare – 2017 Dancing with the Stars contestant) in 2014 when they purchased the Sydney Junction Hotel. Since moving to Newcastle they have fallen in love with the city and now call it home. With 3 pubs and 3 kids (6, 4 and 2) there is never a quiet moment in the Rogers’ household, but they wouldn’t have it any other way Campbell’s association with cancer is from a close family member fighting breast cancer for the last 10 years and his father and father-in-law having multiple skin cancers removed every year.


What does the Cancer Council do in our local community?


The Cancer Council offer a range of services to support anyone affected by cancer. Last year they helped thousands of Australians get the support they need answering over 47,000 calls through our 13 11 20 information and support line.


The Cancer Council fund more cancer research than any other non-government organisation in Australia. In 2017, thanks to the support of the community, they directed over $60 million in cancer research across Australia.


Preventing cancer is one of the most effective ways of creating a cancer-free future. The Cancer Council develop programs that encourage and empower people to lead healthier lifestyles to help reduce their cancer risk.


The Cancer Council work with the community to change laws and policies to reduce cancer risks and improve cancer care.


Volunteers from 'Transport to Treatment' make over 8000 trips a year covering more than 700,000 kms driving cancer patients and their carers to treatment. Not only do they provide a transport service, they are also someone to chat to.

Donations to fund research

Contributing annually over $15m to conduct and fund world-class research underpinning everything they do.


The Cancer Council provides over 20,000 nights of affordable accommodation so that cancer patients, carers and their families can stay close to treatment centres.

Home Help Service

Treatment for cancer can sometimes cause the day to day tasks of living to become difficult for patients and their families.

A common side effect of treatment is fatigue and physical limitations. Home Help services, available across NSW, can assist in decreasing stress and worry for people going through treatment.

Home Help can include cleaning and gardening services. Jim's Lawn Mowing in Newcastle visit homes and help maintain properties and take the stress away from families. 

What are we doing?

Engaging with the community is an intrinsic part of the Sydney Junction Hotel, Argenton Hotel and Gunyah Hotel’s mission and was a pivotal aspect of their operation in 2017. Clare and Campbell Rogers have a passion for community involvement and are excited to be able to use their business’ platforms to give back to the community. On behalf of the fundraising efforts of all venues, they are thrilled to announce that in 2017 they raised almost $100, 000 for Newcastle organisations and charity groups.

With huge numbers of patrons rolling in consecutively every Friday and Saturday night to the Sydney Junction Hotel, Campbell saw an opportunity to give back to the community. 

With a large entry line to the venue due to popularity, the idea of ‘Skip the Line’ was born. A $20 donation that is 100% donated to a given charity allows patrons to enter the hotel without queuing up.

The Rogers on behalf of the Sydney Junction Hotel, Gunyah Hotel and Argenton Hotel feel privileged to be able to create a partnership with a number of charities, organisations, clubs and hospitals to give back to the community and are hoping to raise over $35,000 for the Cancer Council in 2018.
