Newcastle Uni Student Survival Guide

We all know if you go to Uni you care more about your social life than writing a 2000 word essay or studying for an exam that’s 11 weeks away. That’s what the night before is for, right? Look, we aren't advocating leaving it to the last minute and coming here instead, but, you can always retake a class, you can't relive a party. *sorry mum*

Here’s what we have got for the students at SJ's. Stay tuned and start ticking off some of our student favourites:

Mondays:

$15 pasta and risotto

We are conveniently located just down the road from Newcastle’s Callaghan campus. Are you sick of college food and can't bear the idea of sitting down to another curry or stew? Yeah no, me either.

Head down to the hotel and dig into a chilli seafood linguini, pumpkin and sage fettuccine, classic spaghetti meatballs or delicious beef ragout for just $15!

You may be too old for the playground but grab some ping pong bats from the bar and have a laugh in our front bar while you and your mates hook into a game or two.

Tuesdays:

Generally speaking there is no night of the week that there isn't something happening in the world of a student, which leaves the wallet pretty dry. You can only live off $2 Mi Goreng noodles for so long. Sure they are delicious- and questionably nutritious, but the heart wants what the heart wants. A $10 schnitzel.

Get together with a bunch of friends and enjoy a few beers (did I mention happy hour is 4-6pm every weekday?) and it will be the best $10 you ever spend on dinner without breaking the bank.

Wednesdays:

Drum role please. Wednesday is just for you guys. Newcastle Uni night is Wednesday and the night is sacred around college dorms and students from first to third year. Tafe, College and Uni students alike, we want you!

From 9pm to 3am we have got free entry all night long. Come join us for some music from the better days, we have DJ’s mixing it up with classic anthems from the 80’s, 90’s, Naughties and now! We guarantee your favourite classics will be there keeping you stuck on the dance floor all night.

Really stretched the budget this week? We love our Uni students and look after you with $10 beer jugs, $5 house spirits and Somersby Cans.

Thursdays:

Every other week we fill the hotel with fanatics. Themed Trivia is always a crowd pleaser and pretty much the perfect excuse to binge watch a series in four days for preparation.

Harry Potter, Star Wars, The OC, Bridesmaids, Gossip Girl, Mean Girls the list goes on but guaranteed there is something for everyone.

Be sure to book a table as this one is super popular, enjoy a themed cocktail or meal off of our special menu for the evening.

Your competitive side will come to the surface and you may just even walk away with a bar tab or drink voucher to use next Wednesday night.

We don't discriminate either, losers are just as special and A+ for effort. We’ll send you home with a voucher or bar tab too!

Friday:

Come join us for Milk Run every Friday night! We have DJs from 9pm, free entry and $5 drinks all night- whats not to love?

Milk Run? Where does that come from? Without naming names our favourite boss once told his lovely wife he was ducking out for milk and came home two days later! Party all weekend starting with Milk Run at SJs! Promised your girlfriend you would stay home this weekend? Just tell your going on a Milk Run!

Saturday:

Not quite ready to end the party from Friday night? Kick Ons is where its at! Our DJs mix the freshest tunes, and the backyard is the perfect spot to grab a table and sit back with friends!

Now with our second dance floor having just opened, our two rooms of entertainment gets the whole crew happy.

1am lockout and open until 3am, this is where you want to be every Saturday night!

Sunday:

Wind down from the weekend with Kickbacks in the backyard. This is the only way to end your weekend. Order some tapas food from our menu, 3 for $30, and chill out to the acoustic beats of a different live musician or band every week.

Cocktails are just $12, and really you can't put a price on how good an espresso martini really is.
